Positioning
Race-Sim Openers are the race-week template dispatched in the final 2–3 days before a peak event. The protocol produces three race-pace efforts (matching the Athlete's target race profile — 30s, 1-minute, or 8-minute opener depending on the race type) with full recovery between, designed to prime the neuromuscular system without producing structural fatigue. Veloarchitect dispatches this template only when the Athlete's Failure Horizon projection is stable and the Adaptive Workout has cleared the race-week window.
The race-sim opener is the smallest race-week intervention the system dispatches. The protocol is structurally different from a training block — three discrete openers at race pace, full recovery between, no cumulative fatigue. The Athlete who trains hard in the final week before a race will arrive at the start line with collapsed Mechanical Efficiency and a 0.78 Execution Precision. The Athlete who dispatches Race-Sim Openers arrives with primed neuromuscular system, stable Mechanical Efficiency, and a 0.93 Execution Precision.

Worked Example
Athlete: 34y/o, 286W FTP, 1.62 W/bpm, 2 days out from criterium series. Adaptive Workout dispatched Race-Sim Openers (30s profile). Opener #1 peak: 1,142W. Opener #2 peak: 1,138W. Opener #3 peak: 1,151W (slight super-compensation). Mechanical Efficiency held at 1.62 W/bpm post-session. Failure Horizon projection stable at 96 hours. Criterium sprint Execution Precision: 0.96 — the priming signal delivered across the opening lap.
Common assumption inverted
Race-Sim Openers are not “a hard race-week session.” The protocol is a neuromuscular primer — three discrete openers with full recovery, no cumulative fatigue. The Athlete who treats Race-Sim Openers as a final training block will produce structural fatigue the system did not intend and arrive at the start line with collapsed Mechanical Efficiency. Veloarchitect dispatches the openers only when the Adaptive Workout has cleared the race-week window, and the Athlete does not negotiate the dispatch.
