The per-interval deviation between the .zwo prescribed intent and the .fit executed telemetry. The ground-truth signal that drives Execution Precision and feeds Failure Horizon.
Definition
ZWO→FIT Delta is the measurement that makes the closed loop auditable. For each interval in the .zwo file, the system compares the prescribed target to the .fit telemetry recorded against it: power, cadence, heart rate, duration. The Delta is not pass/fail. It is per-interval telemetry. Interval 1 lands at +2W; Interval 2 at -8W; Interval 3 at -34W; Interval 4 at -91W. Each Delta feeds Execution Precision; the cumulative pattern feeds Failure Horizon. Tracked longitudinally, ZWO→FIT Delta becomes the audit trail that distinguishes a 0.94 execution from a structurally correct but physiologically failed one.

Closed Loop
The metric traverses the closed loop: Intent is the .zwo prescription the system computed against the Athlete’s True Normal. Telemetry is the .fit recording of the executed session. Adaptation is the longitudinal movement of the metric itself, logged against the True Normal and feeding back into the next day’s prescription via Protocol 10 (Adaptive Workout).
Worked Example
4×8 VO₂max at 113% FTP. Interval 1 ZWO→FIT Delta = +2W (clean). Interval 2 = -8W (drifting). Interval 3 = -34W (systemic). Interval 4 = -91W (collapse). The system does not score the ride “failed.” It logs four Delta values against the longitudinal record, drops Execution Precision to 0.62, projects a 0.45 Failure Horizon reading for the next day, and rewrites Wednesday’s session to a Recovery Spin regardless of Whoop recovery. The Athlete’s Adaptation Rate for the week reflects the 0.62 precision, not the planned plan.
Common assumption inverted
ZWO→FIT Delta is not a grade. A -91W Interval 4 is not “worse” than a -8W Interval 2 in absolute terms. The Delta is data: it tells the next prescription what the body could and could not execute. The Athlete who delivers four clean Intervals will see their Adaptive Workout rewritten upward; the Athlete who delivers a -91W Interval 4 will see theirs rewritten downward. Both moves are the system learning from the Delta trace.
