Current biological readiness compared to the Athlete’s 100-day True Normal. Values above 1.0 indicate an expansive phase; values below indicate body degradation.
Definition
Readiness Ratio is the system-computed signal that joins Whoop recovery to the Athlete’s training load. It compares today against the last 100 days of the Athlete’s own data, not against a population. A reading of 0.91 means the system expects the Athlete to absorb 91% of the load the recent biology could handle. The first gate on whether the day calls for stress or recovery.

Closed Loop
The metric traverses the closed loop: Intent is the .zwo prescription the system computed against the Athlete’s True Normal. Telemetry is the .fit recording of the executed session. Adaptation is the longitudinal movement of the metric itself, logged against the True Normal and feeding back into the next day’s prescription via Protocol 10 (Adaptive Workout).
Worked Example
A 0.84 reading on a planned Threshold Sustain session triggers Protocol 10. The system replaces the threshold block with a Z2 endurance ride of equal duration, drops the .zwo mechanical-work target by 24%, and logs the deviation against the Athlete’s longitudinal record. Execution Precision is recorded at the end of the ride for the longitudinal Adaptation Rate calculation.
Common assumption inverted
Readiness Ratio is not a Whoop reading. Whoop reports recovery against a population baseline. Readiness Ratio is computed against the Athlete’s own 100-day True Normal. The two diverge most when the Athlete is well above or below population norms — exactly the conditions when Whoop’s score is least useful.
