Normalized Power — the public-domain 30-second-rolling-average power estimate. Veloarchitect computes NP per-interval against the .zwo intent; ZWO→FIT Delta is the audit trail.
Definition
NP is the public-domain intensity estimate; Veloarchitect does not redefine it. The Veloarchitect protocol computes NP per-interval against the .zwo intent — the prescribed power target for each interval — and produces a ZWO→FIT Delta for each interval. Aggregate NP over the whole ride is useful; per-interval NP against intent is auditable. Two Athletes with the same ride NP can have very different ZWO→FIT Delta traces; the system reads both. The longitudinal record of per-interval NP feeds the Athlete's Adaptation Rate computation against True Normal.
Protocols: Protocol 2 — VO₂max Repeats; Protocol 10 — Adaptive Workout
Closed Loop
The metric traverses the closed loop: Intent is the .zwo prescription the system computed against the Athlete’s True Normal. Telemetry is the .fit recording of the executed session. Adaptation is the longitudinal movement of the metric itself, logged against the True Normal and feeding back into the next day’s prescription via Protocol 10 (Adaptive Workout).
Worked Example
Athlete A: 4×8 VO₂max, ride NP 287W, ZWO→FIT Delta trace +2W / −8W / −34W / −91W. Athlete B: same ride, same ride NP 287W, ZWO→FIT Delta trace +3W / +1W / −4W / −7W. Same ride NP, very different execution. Athlete A's Execution Precision: 0.62. Athlete B's: 0.91. The Adaptive Workout scheduler reads each Athlete's Delta trace and dispatches different next-day prescriptions.
Common assumption inverted
NP is not a measure of effort. Two Athletes with the same ride NP have not produced the same effort in any meaningful sense; their ZWO→FIT Delta traces diverge. NP aggregated across a ride is a coarse summary; per-interval NP against the .zwo intent is the auditable signal.
